STATEMENT BY ECOWAS COMMISSION FOLLOWING THE ATTACKS IN BOULKESSI AND MONDORO, MOPTI REGION OF MALI
The President of the ECOWAS Commission has learnt with deep sorrow and great indignation of the attacks in the night of 29 and 30 September 2019 on a Malian military unit of the G5 Sahel Joint Force in Boulkessi and Mondoro military camp, Mopti region.
The ECOWAS Commission and its Institutions hereby strongly condemn these terrorist acts that caused the death of about thirty soldiers, leaving several injured and missing, and substantial material damage. The Commission and its Institutions commiserate with the Government and people of Mali. In remembrance of the lives lost, they express their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded.
ECOWAS Commission wishes to reiterate its unwavering support to the Government of Mali in its efforts to restore peace and stability in the entire country. This renewed commitment is in line with the decision taken by the Authority of Heads of State and Government at its Extraordinary Summit on security held in Ouagadougou on 14 September 2019, to strengthen solidarity in the fight against terrorism in close collaboration with partners and the international community.
