PRESS STATEMENT BY HIS H.E MARCEL A. DE SOUZA, PRESIDENT OF THE ECOWAS COMMISSION ON THE SITUATION IN TOGO

 Following the recent demonstrations by the coalition of opposition parties, the ECOWAS Commission is monitoring the socio-political developments in Togo.

The ECOWAS Commission:

• Urges the Government, all political leaders, civil society, socio-professional organisations and all lovers of peace and justice, to intensify their efforts for strengthening dialogue and avoid any act that may provoke violent confrontation;
• Urgently calls on the parties to respect constitutional order and conduct reforms in a peaceful, calm and mutually conducive environment.

ECOWAS is pleased to note the readiness of all the parties to end the crisis through dialogue and non-violent means. ECOWAS also reaffirms its commitment to work towards a peaceful, consensual and sustainable resolution, for the well-being of the Togolese people.
