Message of Sympathy from the ECOWAS Commission President in the wake of violent demonstrations in Togo
| The President of the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has learnt with great sadness the death of several Togolese citizens, both civilian and military, during violent demonstrations which took place recently in the country.
In these painful circumstances, the ECOWAS Commission President bows to the memory of those who had died, extends his condolences to the bereaved families, the people and Government of Togo and wishes a swift recovery to the injured.
He once again calls upon all political stakeholders and the people of Togo to exercise restraint and refrain from violence, and favour dialogue in order to preserve peace, national cohesion and unity as a backbone of a common destiny. |
