Marcel de Souza gives credit to the west African forces engaged in the operation to restore democracy in the Gambia
(Dakar, 21 Jan. 2017). The President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Marcel de Souza has commended the West African Forces engaged in the operation to restore democracy in The Gambia for the professionalism, skill and efficiency they showed in the conduct of the operation.
He gave the commendation on Saturday 21 January 2017 during his visit to the Command Headquarters of the Forces.
He reiterated the support and encouragement of all ECOWAS institutions and urged them to remain vigilant as regards the security of their positions.
Marcel de Souza used the opportunity to commend once again the enlightened leadership of the ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, all presidential mediation missions as well as leaders of friendly countries of ECOWAS who contributed to the peaceful settlement of the post-electoral crisis in The Gambia.
He paid tribute to the Nigerian, Senegalese and Ghanaian armed forces for providing troops and logistics. He thanked the President of Senegal, Macky Sall for the warm reception accorded to the troops deployed for the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG) and all the facilities they received for smooth operations.
