Final validation workshop on Abidjan – Lagos Corridor opens in Abuja

The concluding two-Day Workshop meant to validate the Study on institutional and legal framework for the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor (ALC) began in Abuja on the 14th of July, 2017.

Participants are examining Corridor Management as well as communication advisory consultancy services for the early stage preparation of the ALC highway development programme.

The Study which was conducted by Gauff Engineering Consultants, is to facilitate the establishment of the ALC Management Authority as well as the preparation of Communications and Public Relations materials geared towards the creation of necessary awareness and advocacy to generate the support of the ECOWAS community citizens and authorities for a successful implementation of the Project.

Declaring the Workshop open, the ECOWAS Commission’s Commissioner for Infrastructure, Dr. Antoinette Weeks congratulated the experts drawn from the Ministries of Justice and Road, works, infrastructure of Member States for working closely with the Commission on the project since inception in 2016. She urged participants to work collaboratively while reviewing and finalizing the multilateral document.

Commissioner Weeks also expressed the Commission’s profound gratitude to the Development Partners including the Infrastructure and Energy Department of the African Union Commission, which initiated support for the Study, the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur International Zusammenabeit (GIZ), as well as the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Agency, which serves as the Executing Agency for African Development Bank (AfDB) funding.

Participants at the Workshop include Road Infrastructure and Legal experts from the five (5) ALC Member States, and officials from NEPAD, GIZ, AfDB as well as the ECOWAS Commission.
