1. ECOWAS has pursued a policy of developing power generation and transmission to establish a regional electricity market in its space. To complement this policy, ECOWAS is now engaged in promotion of people’ massive access to electricity. Thus, ECOWAS initiated, with the support of World Bank, the Regional Electricity Access Project, ECOWAS-REAP, set up with a regional approach. The project is to be implemented in several phases and expected to gradually cover 11 countries including 9 of the ECOWAS.
2. The Project Development Objective is to increase access to grid electricity, enhance power system stability, and increase renewable energy integration in the West Africa Power Pool.
