The 15 Member States of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) met in Abuja, Nigeria from the 28th to 29th October, 2015 to put in place a strategy for the realization of the ECOWAS Radio and Television Station. The establishment of the Radio and TV station is towards realization of the vision to move the region from an ECOWAS of States to an ECOWAS of People.Mr. Babacar, Toure, President, CNRA, Senegal and Chairman of the meeting in his opening remarks underscored the importance of the ECOWAS Radio/TV project. He said the Radio/TV will further place the West African voice on the global stage and also show the richness of our diverse cultural heritage. Mr. Toure also emphasized that by creating the Station, our youths will have the opportunity of being informed an educated on global issues, by a regional based media organizationSimilarly, Dr. Isaias Barreto da Rosa, ECOWAS Commissioner for  Telecommunications and Information Technology said that the ECOWAS Radio and TV station will serve as a platform for information and education to the citizens of West Africa on the founding values of our community, which he said includes: integration, respect for differences, principle of active solidarity and also create awareness on the West African Identity.Dr. do Rosa added that through the dissemination of appropriate programmes, the Radio/TV will strengthen the sense of belonging of citizens to a community that is very plural but united by common history, values, cultural heritage and a future aspiration.After two days of deliberations, delegates and experts were able to chart a way and develop a roadmap for the realization of the ECOWAS Radio and TV Station, which is expected to GO LIVE by the end of 2017.
