ECOWAS expands online presence through new media
In line with modern trends in new media, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) expanded its online media presence through the Facebook, Twitter and Youtube platforms to complement the institution’s revamped website which was launched in March 2015.
Social media is a critical tool which the Commission will harness in its efforts to move the Community from an ECOWAS of States to an ECOWAS of People in tandem with its vision 2020. These Social media platforms will serve as an interactive forum between the Commission and Community citizens as well as keep them informed of its activities and programmes. Information regarding recruitment, procurement as well as political, social and economic activities are featured through these channels, bringing ECOWAS closer to its citizens and allowing them interact and engage the organization through comments and sharing of information. ECOWAS urges the general public as well as governments, non-governmental and international organizations to subscribe to its social media handles in order to be kept abreast with the Commissions’ activities and programmes in real time.
