ECOWAS Commission President Plays Host To Anti-Malaria Intervention Inventors
Abuja, 27th July, 2017. Two inventors of anti-malarial interventions, Drs. Achidi Valentin Agon, Managing Director and founder of API-Benin International SARL, an African Phytopharmaceutical Industry and Eddy Agbo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fyodor Biotechnologies, paid a courtesy visit to the ECOWAS Commission’s President, Mr. Marcel de Souza on 26th July, 2017. The duo were at the ECOWAS Commission to discuss the possibility of expanding the production of their interventions in order to make them available and affordable to ECOWAS citizens and by extension, Africans in general. The inventions are API-PALU developed by Dr. Agon. This is an organic malaria phytomedicine which treats different types of plasmodium (falciparum, vivax, ovale, malariae) and Prostati, a plant extract for the prevention and treatment of prostate as well as Urine Malaria Test kit developed by Dr. Agbo which is regarded as the first non-blood malaria test kit. Mr. de Souza commended the inventors for their innovations and expressed ECOWAS commitment to citizens’ initiatives especially those that could impact lives beyond the region and provide an African solution to end the malaria scourge. Mr. de Souza also urged the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) whose President, Mr. Bashir Mamman IFO was in attendance during the meeting to consider financing of the ventures in line with the quest to establish industries in the Republics of Nigeria and Benin respectively. The inventors are winners of the 1st and 2nd prizes at the Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA) 2016 who also participated in the June 2017 Summit of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government where the summiteers were introduced to their products.
